SALEWA CUBE VARESE

At Salewa Cube Varese, the quality of light becomes an integral part of the sporting experience: it supports concentration, enhances the visibility of climbing walls and holds, and accompanies athletes and visitors throughout the different areas of the facility.

The project

Created through the redevelopment of a former sports area in the San Fermo district, Salewa Cube Varese is the city’s first gym entirely dedicated to sport climbing. The complex includes climbing walls, multipurpose spaces, reception and social areas, offices, user facilities, five covered padel courts, an outdoor parkour area and parking facilities.
This diverse range of spaces is designed to welcome people with different levels of experience and provide a contemporary, inclusive and comfortable environment. In this context, lighting plays a decisive role: it must ensure visibility, uniformity and comfort in spaces featuring different geometries, heights and functions.

The lighting challenge

In the climbing area, light must support vertical movement without creating shadows or visual discontinuities. The correct perception of surfaces, volumes and holds is essential for navigating the wall and climbing in comfortable conditions.
At the same time, service areas and communal spaces require differentiated solutions that can meet specific usage needs while maintaining consistent lighting quality throughout the facility.

The solution

SMART PRO 4 2M HLO luminaires, installed on trunking systems, were selected for the climbing area. This configuration provides uniform, high-performance lighting, enhancing the visibility of the climbing walls and ensuring visual comfort during sporting activities.
In the multipurpose rooms, the lighting design combines NORMA+ weatherproof luminaires, SL764+ solutions, ELIA DL M2 OPAL round recessed LED downlights and ELIA PL M2 600 OP luminaires. The bar area is completed by MIMIK 20 luminaires, selected to integrate light and architecture in a space dedicated to relaxation and social interaction.
