ROCKBANK RAILWAY STATION

The Rockbank railway station was renovated as an integral part of the Regional Rail Revival project to modernize the Ballarat Line. It was strongly supported by the Victoria state Government to ensure modern infrastructure and efficient services for the growing population of suburban Melbourne communities.

The reconstruction project involved the construction of two new longer platforms for the six-carriage VLocity trains, a futuristic pedestrian overpass connecting the platforms, the construction of a new 350-space car park as well as bus and taxi stops, bicycle storage areas, drop-off areas and a completely improved lighting system.

In railway infrastructures of this type, lighting is particularly important to ensure proper visibility and greater safety at night and when there are fewer people in transit. PERFORMANCE iN LIGHTING was chosen as partner for the lighting. After preparation of a detailed lighting design in collaboration with Opal Lighting Systems and Eye Lighting Australia Pty Ltd, PERFORMANCE iN LIGHTING supplied professional luminaires from the THEOS series to illuminate the large parking area, access ramps for the overpass and train platforms, providing different illuminance values depending on the area. For the circulation areas, watertight fixtures from the NORMA+ series were installed, in compliance with the most stringent safety standards for public areas.

Overall the station now provides better access for buses, better shelter for passengers, safer circulation and is more accessible, with lifts and ramps for people with mobility aids or wheelchairs, making it much easier for travellers to move between platforms and around the station.
