Roberto Fiorato

Roberto Fiorato was born in Verona on 28 June 1949. After graduating from the Liceo Artistica G. B. Cignaroli of Verona he specialized in Mosaic Art in Venice. He has been a professional Art Educator.

In 1973 he began his career with the Lodi Family, first as a Designer at Vetrerie Lodi/Gav until 1978, and later, as Designer and Art Director at PRISMA S.p.A., then Performance in Lighting S.p.A. until 2020.

His experience with glass and the infinite possibilities it presents for working it and using it is the common element in all the luminaires he designs. Glass became a fundamental and distinctive element for the market, as illustrated by DUNA, the first outdoor glass lamp produced by Prisma (presented at SIL in Paris 1984 - Formes Utiles).

Compared to the commonly used material, plastic, for the production of luminaires, pressed glass allowed courageous shapes and created a brilliant, pure material effect, maintaining these characteristics over time, as well as withstanding the high temperatures of halogen lamps used at the time.

His collaboration with this company has lasted almost 50 years and has been not only professional but of friendship, mutual esteem and respect, which has led to the creation of many products that have made the history of this company, and that are still today long-sellers. His is a story of passion and research, of love of light and all the variations that inspire him to specialize in the design of lighting fixtures. Many fixtures have been designed in the more than forty years of activity, both interior and exterior models as well as technical products for urban lighting.

Roberto Fiorato has received several international awards including the IF product design award, ADI DESIGN INDEX and Arango Design Competition (USA).

His new project, CODICEICONA S.r.l., began in 2020 with the objective to identify unforgettable objects by great masters of 20th C design, long gone from the market. and return them to production.
