Light, space, transparency. The Bayeux media library is a 2,500 square metre building located in a green area that becomes the architectural link between the historic centre of the city and new urban development zones. It is a place where knowledge is cosmopolitan and unlimited, and the exchange is open to all disciplines and cultures.
The design by the SERERO Architectes studio of Paris began with a reflection on the use of the spaces. The multimedia library is designed as a large free platform with a long continuous shelf. A finite space, which brings together an infinite number of sub-spatial organizations, 5 metre by 5 metre square modules in which shelves, worktables and reading chairs are distributed.
Artificial lighting is fully integrated into the architecture, it plays a fundamental role in giving the proper visibility in each module. Lighting was achieved with SL789 series ceiling mounted and SL764 series recessed fixtures that provide carefully calibrated, glare-free illumination that combats reading fatigue.
The products were made in a special version to integrate non-invasively with the structure, in fact the aluminium body of all the appliances was finished in RAL9002 to blend with the colour of the ceiling.
A total of 94 SL789AB LED ceiling fixtures, with PMMA opal diffuser for optimal distribution and high light uniformity, form about 440 linear meters of lighting.These fit perfectly into the space between support columns, further defining the grid of 5x5-meter modules along the entire ceiling. At the perimeter of the building continuous rows of SL764EB FRAME LED fixtures delineate the large glazed facade.
All fixtures are controlled using the DALI protocol to ensure precise lighting management with both pre-set scenarios and the ability to dim light levels according to the specific needs of a given moment.
The custom solutions for this specific context were realized with LIGHT-PERFORMER®, the online software by PERFORMANCE iN LIGHTING, which can be used to create a customized configuration of complex lighting systems in a few simple steps.
