CRUISE TERMINAL - DOHA PORT

Doha - Qatar

  • CUSTOMER: Supreme Comittee for Delivery and Legacy Doha | Qatar Tourism

The Cruise Terminal is the gateway to Doha for international visitors arriving by sea. The impressive structure is designed to accommodate two cruise ships simultaneously, each carrying 6,000 passengers, and welcome up to 300,000 visitors annually. The building is divided into two adjacent sections and a central area housing arrival and departure halls, along with offices dedicated to customs and passport services operating 24/7 to ensure fast and efficient procedures.

The lighting design enhances the architecture, transforming the Terminal into a landmark that dominates the nighttime panorama of Doha’s port. Uniform illumination of the perimeter galleries creates a striking interior backdrop, where the seven tiers of diminishing arches (1,154 in total), viewed from outside, become a refined decorative filigree that defines the entire complex.

This stunning visual effect is achieved through a combination of STRIP SQUARE+ INGROUND linear recessed floodlights with intensive circular optics, installed at the base of each column to light the first level, and SHIELD+ 1 wall mounted fixtures positioned above the first tier of internal arches, extending the light flow to the upper level. The arches, progressively reducing in size, give the façade its distinctive character. The result is a uniform, diffused architectural illumination that visually lightens the structure once lit.

A total of 470 SHIELD+ 1 fixtures in the EXTREME version were installed, designed to deliver high luminous performance and long LED lifespan even in challenging environmental conditions. These fixtures were custom-made with a RAL 9002 finish to blend seamlessly with the wall color, ensuring a discreet and integrated appearance.

The Terminal is not just a transit point but a dynamic hub featuring an aquarium showcasing local marine species and a multifunctional space for events, exhibitions, and conferences throughout the year. The project is part of Doha Port’s redevelopment plan, conceived as a maritime gateway to the Arabian Gulf and a strategic infrastructure in the heart of the city. This transformation has restored Doha’s historic connection with the sea, enriching the city’s offering of green spaces, leisure areas, and hospitality services.
